This fall semester has been full of fintech activity at the Stena Center. From hosting networking events, putting on the first ever fintech career expo, and offering new classes, we’re excited about the increase of fintech activities happening on campus and throughout the community. Here are a few highlights.
Stena Center + Fintech Utah
We welcomed this semester by hosting a Fintech Utah networking event. Fintech Utah is an organization that supports and develops the FinTech community in Utah through providing networking opportunities, raising awareness and educating. This event, hosted at the Stena Center office, was designed to bring together students, fintech professionals and enthusiasts. Attendees had the chance to engage in meaningful networking, share ideas, and talk about all things financial services.
The intimate setting allowed students to connect directly with industry leaders. We’re grateful for the awesome fintech community and leaders who are so willing to support the next-generation of talent. For those unable to attend, you can catch highlights and future events by following us here.
Fintech Career Expo: Opening Doors for Future Fintech Leaders
In partnership with U Career Success, we hosted the first-ever fintech career expo at the University of Utah. The expo offered students the unique opportunity to have one on one conversations with recruiters, learn about current job openings and explore internships in the financial technology space.
The expo was a huge success, with a wide variety of fintech firms represented, from startups to established players in the financial services industry. Students walked away with a greater understanding of the skills and qualifications fintech companies are looking for, as well as new contacts to help them launch their careers. It was great to see so much interest from both the students and companies, and we’re excited to make this expo a regular part of the university’s career events.
Exclusive Fintech Info Sessions: Featuring Brex and Addepar
This semester we’ve also hosted several exclusive info sessions with leading fintech companies Brex and Addepar. These recruiting events gave students the chance to hear directly from industry leaders about their companies’ rotational programs, the skills needed to succeed in fintech and how students can position themselves for future career opportunities.
- Brex Info Session: Brex leaders shared insights into their company’s growth as a disruptive fintech, their rotational program, and how Brex is helping shape the future of financial services. Students had the chance to connect with Brex’s team, learn about job opportunities, and enjoy a networking session over food.
- Addepar On-Site Visit: Addepar, a global leader in wealth management technology, opened its doors to students for a hands-on look at how they manage over $6 trillion in assets. Students enjoyed a tour of the office, a panel discussion with professionals, and a networking lunch where they learned about job and internship opportunities.
These info sessions are just the beginning! We’re actively working to bring more fintech companies to campus and arrange visits for students to experience firsthand what these companies have to offer. It’s all part of our mission to help students explore the full spectrum of opportunities available to them in the world of fintech.
Introducing PayTech: The Future of Payments Technology
In addition to hosting these fantastic events, there’s a new fintech course this semester to studnets. PayTech is a course that dives into the business models and technologies driving the global payments industry, with a focus on topics like Open/API Banking, Embedded Finance, and International Remittances.
What sets this course apart is its emphasis on real-world applications. Not only does it dive into emerging trends like digital currencies and data privacy regulations, but it also features guest lectures from industry leaders. These experts bring tangible insights from their own experiences and gives students a chance to learn about the latest trends and developments straight from those at the forefront of the fintech world.
This unique combination of academic learning and practical insights makes the PayTech course an invaluable resource for students looking to specialize in payment technologies and gain a competitive edge in the industry.
